Betsey Johnson Peasant Blouse Replica
I created this blouse as one of my final projects during my bachelor's program. I initially hand embroidered the entire blouse, something I had never done. It took about 120 hours between the front panel and two sleeve details. I later got an embroidery machine and digitized it using Hatch Embroidery Digitizer. You can't imagine my face when I learnt that my 120 hours of pain staking embroidery only took about 3 on my machine.
Cloud City Leia
Bespin Leia, or otherwise known as Cloud City Leia, is a handmade replica of the costume that was completed in 2022. This costume began in 2019 when I was gifted the cape fabric that was designed by another Leia costumer. The fabric is a polyester crepe de chine with a printed design. Some people leave the fabric as is for the costume and some embroider over the design to mimic the original costume. I embroidered the cape off and on for about 3 years before completing the rest of the costume.
There was approximately 800 hours total put into this costume. From the embroidery, to hand braided trim and hand stitched finishes. It was awarded two awards at Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo in 2022 - one for Best Experienced Maker as well as Fan Favourite.
Rapunzel Embroidery
Rapunzel has been a costume that I've been planning since about 2018. I have always wanted to upgrade my initial one that I sewed back then. One design choice I really wanted to tackle was embroidered satin. Although the dress's bodice fabric, if following the film's design, has normally painted, screen printed or otherwise detailed on floral patterns, I have loved the look of the floral bodice design being embroidered. With that I developed how to achieve that by designing my own repeating pattern that is then embroidered directly onto my project's satin.
I also began developing a custom lace to replicate exactly how Rapunzel's lace looks on her dress in the film. I digitized it again using hatch and printed it on some white organza.
