MISSION STATEMENT & PHILOSOPHY OF PRACTICE.

Updated: Apr 8, 2021

Here I will discuss my mission as a Human Ecologist as well as my philosophy of practice.

"It is my mission throughout my career to inspire others through education in designing garments as well as developing and manufacturing size inclusive clothing." - Emma Ross

I believe that over recent history, clothing has become something that is something important, but also not. For context, in terms of younger generations clothing is everything. The rise of fast fashion has made following trends crucial, but once the trend is over the clothing is discarded. I would like to help others develop a more sustainable closet with well made garments that are pieces they truly desire and won't throw away next season.

The benefits of my degree are that there are several areas that I will be able to fall into that cater to my interests. This will allow me to have a continued passion in my career, as I will be able to begin new jobs that still fall into my education.

Some of my current passions include designing and sewing garments and costumes, teaching others what I've learnt throughout my degree, research, historical dress, museum work, textile conservation, and more. As you can see, I hope with this education and possibly further education in this field I will be able to assist others as best I can.

I believe that textiles from our past are crucial, it can help us understand more about our ancestors. Textiles that traversed countries and oceans, as well as through generations allow us to understand the social, economical and even political contexts of the time.
